Meet ups

OMA meet up at Cascade Locks Historical Museum, August 2022

Host a meet up

OMA supports regional meet ups across the state, which can be casual or more structured.

Help us plan meet ups across the state

We're looking for folks to host OMA meet ups across the state.

OMA meet ups are informal and engaging opportunities to connect and network with fellow professionals in the museum world. They are an opportunity for people to share successes and struggles, pitch new ideas and ask questions, and to find support and inspiration. Above all though, we want to create a space for museum and museum-adjacent professionals to have the time to simply meet and have fun!

Meet ups are what you make them! You can choose one of the following formats (or make up your own!):

  • Host a meet up at your museum, business, or organization. This gives you the opportunity to promote your own organization by also providing access to your space and exhibits for self-guided or guided tours when possible.
    • It can be super informal with a bowl of chips and a bottle of soda for folks.
    • You can offer a bigger/fancier spread by asking local businesses to provide donations or sponsorships. Also, OMA has limited funds for organizations to provide food and drink.
  • Host a meet up at a local eatery, café, pub, or bar with a designated space for attendees, and folks can purchase their own food and drinks. Maybe the business could offer a discount for OMA folks.
  • Host an online meet up via OMA's Zoom platform where attendees can join from the comfort of their home with their own food and drinks. Want to gather together groups of like-minded individuals? You can manage a meet up for folks interested in collections, educators, volunteers, exhibits, social media, digitization, NAGPRA, packing, shipping and storage, or anything else.
If you are interested in hosting a meet up, please email us at connect@oregonmuseums.org.
